In 2004 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America received an A+ rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy and a 4-star “Exceptional” rating from Charitable Navigator “for exceeding industry standards and outperforming most charities in its cause.” As part of the national organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland County strives to maintain exceptional service to the at-risk children of our area. Our mission is to provide nurturing one-to-one relationships for children who are in need of positive role models.
Even as a non-profit organization with a large base of volunteers, the expenses to run an organization such as ours are always present. Because we are an independent agency, we do not have funding from any large corporation or United Way. Therefore, we depend on local donations, grants, endowments and bequests to maintain our budget.
Our first priority is to employ an Executive Director and Case Managers that are qualified professionals with 4 year degrees in a social or human resources field. Each potential “Big Brother” or “Big Sister” is screened, trained and supervised to help ensure that the mentor to child relationship will be a safe and rewarding experience. The second priority is to maintain office personnel that exhibit the same high standards of expertise in accomplishing the goals set forth by the Board of Directors.
As Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland Co. looks forward to another Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraising event in 2006, we would like for the public to be informed about the commitment of our agency and use of donations. In the past year, your donated dollars have made a difference in the lives of over 500 “Bigs”, “Littles”, students and others in and around the Richland County Area!. Our major fund raiser will help us: (Please, be reminded that all donations remain in our local area.)
· Provide qualified professional staff · Quality training for Case Managers and office personnel · Properly screening and training volunteers · Keep public awareness about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland Co. in the forefront · Provide office location for contacts of families wishing services · Expand with satellite programs
“Children are more likely to excel and make better choices with their lives when they have felt the quiet power of the match experience.” Thank you for being a part of making a difference in a young person’s life through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland County. We look forward to you being a part of Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2006 on February 18/19th and 25/26th.
